年の瀬も押し迫った2016年12月31日。ある奇妙なタイトルの動画がニコニコ動画に投稿された。その名も「団地アート・オンライン」。
実在の巨大団地である「多摩川住宅」【※】を3DCGにて完全再現し、中でキャラが自由に走り回っているというものだ。

1969年に完成した東京都住宅供給公社初のマンモス団地。敷地33万平方メートル、約4,000戸の規模を誇る。敷地内にはショッピングモール、野球場、小・中学校などを抱え、全国のサラリーマンの憧れの的となった。
団地の外観だけでなく、公園の遊具、廊下、部屋の中など、すべてが詳細に再現されている。瞬く間にユーザーの間で話題となり、再生回数は20万回を突破。「手間がすごすぎる」「何のために作ったんだ」「私も鬼ごっこしたい」といったコメントで溢れた。
